Testing

Not Your Ordinary Psychological Testing

Dr. Griesemer does not offer typical testing.  Her psychological assessments are focused on understanding personality, feelings, relationships, and maladaptive patterns.

If you are looking for psychological testing to diagnose learning disabilities please call us for referrals:  we know excellent providers.

If you are looking for answers to complicated questions, you are in the right place.

Our testing is tailored to you.  There is no standard set of tests.  No standard report.  Everything is individualized.
After meeting you will have a new understanding of your situation.  You will leave with a clear idea of where to go next.  With a little help -- and a little understanding and undivided attention -- you can find new, efficient ways of getting where you want to go.

To get started, follow these three easy steps:

Call or email us to schedule an initial interview.

Meet for the Initial Interview.   It lasts 1.5 hours and costs $275.  This is our chance to figure out what problems you want solved and to come up with our tailor made testing plan.  Once we come up with the testing plan I quote you a final price for the testing.  The typical cost of testing ranges from $3000 to $5000 depending on what is required.

Complete the testing.  When it's finished, we'll meet to go over the answers to your questions and give you a plan to tackle the places you are stuck.  You'll also get a written letter (in normal person language, not psychology speak) to remind you of what we talked about.

This isn't your typical psychological assessment.  This is a process of discovery that will give you insight into why you feel stuck.

We've answered questions similar to these:

  • What can we do to stop my son's tantrums?
  • My daughter doesn't want to go to school anymore.  Is she sad?  Nervous?
  • Why can't I get going anymore?  I just don't want to do anything.
  • My husband and I fight all the time.  I'm tired of it.  What's got us stuck?
  • Why do I keep dating guys who are mean to me?

Want more detail?  Let's outline the basic steps to give you an idea of the process.

Initial Interview - This meeting is an hour and a half, and is the chance for you to meet with the assessor to come up with the list of things that are puzzling you. This meeting costs $275 at the time of service.  At the end of this session we come up with a game-plan for the remaining testing based upon the questions you have and will give the set price at that time.  The fee ranges from $3000 to $5000 depending on what amount of testing we need to do.

Testing Sessions - These are spread out over a few weeks to ensure that we get the best possible understanding of you or your child.    We typically meet for two to three hours once a week for several weeks, but will work with your schedule.  I take my time to get the best results for you so we know that our answers are right.  AND, if you have a kiddo with struggles, our package price ensures that you are not paying by the hour for us to give your child breaks to play and recoup.  That's built in.  It is typical to spend 8 - 12 hours on testing sessions, and I spend an additional 10 hours scoring and interpreting the data outside of our work together.  Additionally, I consult with and involve anyone else that is part of this process of discovery:  a spouse, your therapist, a child's teacher, and so on.  This is factored into the cost and is not an extra charge.

Testing is not a fast process, but it is thorough and it does give you answers to your questions.  Often the full testing process can take 2 - 6 months depending on how many sessions must be scheduled and who else is involved in the process.  This is a sharp contrast to testing done at clinics, or traditional sites, that is conducted in one or two days.  I don't expect to fully understand you in one day;  I need a full picture of you to help you make lasting change.

Discussion of Findings - After completing the testing, and interpreting the results, I will meet with you to discuss the answers to your questions.  If you have a therapist, I invite them to be present to discuss the results or I can meet with them separately.  We spend an hour and a half together to go over the testing and recommendations.  When a child is involved, we will also meet with them at another time to answer the questions that they had.

Written Summary - My summaries are written in easy to understand language, not jargon.  Have you ever read a traditional report?  Ask to see a sample before working with a psychologist;  make sure you will be able to understand what you will be receiving.

I want YOU to understand the results of testing.  All the information needed for school accommodations will be included as well;  however, our priority is that this information is as useful to you as possible.  The written summary is mailed to you a few weeks after we meet to discuss the findings.

Payment - I don't take insurance, but many of our clients submit our detailed receipts for reimbursement once testing is complete.  The cost of the initial interview is due at the first testing session ($275).  Half of the full price is due at the first testing session and the remainder is due at the discussion session when we discuss findings.

Please note that we DO NOT communicate with insurance companies.  Any extra communication that you require to file your receipt outside of my standard itemized receipt we provide will be charged at my hourly rate.
